He is also a registered architect in the state of New York, USA. He is a member of the EXC 2120: Cluster of Excellence IntCDC – Integrative Computational Design and Construction for Architecture where his research focuses on a novel, digital, modular wood building system to enable the adoption of prefabricated timber construction in additional building typologies.
Prior to joining the ICD, Lui worked as a Computational Designer and Project Architect at HKS Architects in London, UK. There, he applied computational design thinking and techniques, and coordinated international project teams across sectors, specialising in Health and Stadium projects and a focusing on the MENA region. Recently, Lui co-taught the Dual-Additive Manufacturing Combining Timber and In-Process Bio-Based 3D-Printing workshop at the ACADIA 2020 conference. He is currently Co-Chair of the IntCDC Early Career Board, and was Chair of the University of Michigan’s Architecture Student Research Grant Committee. He has been the recipient of numerous honours and awards, including the 2017 HKS Design Fellowship, addressing the UN’s 2016 Sustainable Development Goals, and won the 2017 HKS Idea Fellowship for the joint project “Embedding Intelligence in Stadium Design”.
